Many women experience unexpected difficulties along the way and find themselves struggling alone or in silence. There can be many barriers preventing women from getting the support and care they need during this time. Our culture still places a stigma on women who struggle physically or emotionally with becoming a mother. The assumption is that this process is natural and easy. And women are often trained and expected to act as caretakers for others without needing care for themselves. All of this can make it hard for women to ask for or receive compassionate mental health care when needed.
Dr. Suzanne Smith has specialized training and experience in helping women manage their grief, worry, fears, and sadness as they adjust to the emotional, physical, and social changes that occur in this process.
